(Antwerp 1607–1672)
(Antwerp 1579–1657)
Putti with a basket of fruit and a parrot,
oil on canvas, 101 x 152 cm, framed
Provenance:
Private collection, The Netherlands, until 2018
Literature:
N. Büttner, Rubens: allegories and subjects from literature, in: Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard, XII, vol. 1, 2019, pp. 120-123, under no. 8
We are grateful to Bert Schepers of the Rubenianum, Antwerp for suggesting the attribution to Erasmus Quellinus II and the Workshop of Frans Snijders.
The still life and the parrot are partly inspired by a work executed in collaboration with Peter Paul Rubens and Frans Snijders in the Museo del Prado, Madrid. The present painting is comparable to a signed Caritas by Erasmus Quellinus in the Groeningemuseum, Bruges. It can be dated to circa 1655/60.
