A tea table / elephant trunk table, Adolf Loos - Design

in collaboration with Max Schmidt / work master Berka, manufactured by Kunsttischlerei Friedrich Otto Schmidt, Vienna, after 1900; the wooden construction supported on eight legs, with tiles, brass fittings and sabots. Height c. 64.5 cm, diameter c. 87 cm. (MHA)

Adolf Loos used this table model in different variations (6 and 8-legged models, size of the table top, with and without brass appliqués as well as table-top inlays.) An example of this model series is preserved in the collection of the Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna (in the permanent exhibition “Design/Arts and Crafts 1890 – 1938”).
