Boxes such as the present one were used as packaging and gift boxes for the Metz & Co shops in Amsterdam and The Hague between 1935 and 1952.
Bart Anthony van der Leck was a Netherlandish designer and artist. Together with Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg he founded the movement known as De Stijl, from which he would distance himself in 1918.
