Two armchairs, Adolf Loos - Design

c. 1918 / 1919, for Strasser House, Vienna, manufactured by J. Veillich, solid wooden frame on four legs with artfully carved openwork back rests, upholstered seat with leather cover and decorative nails. Dimensions of each armchair: height c. 93 cm, width c. 65 cm, depth c. 55 cm, height of seat c. 48 cm. (MHA)

The so-called Strasser House on 28 Kupelwiesergasse in Vienna’s 13th district was originally built for Heinrich Ritter Loebenstein von Aigenhorst in 1896. In 1918-1919 Adolf Loos altered it for the Viennese manufacturer Karl Strasser. During this period, master carpenter J. Veillich was commissioned to create the present armchairs.

Adolf Loos also used very similar armchair model in Turnowsky‘s apartment.
