"Cadeau", 1921/1974, multiple, iron cast and copper nails, signed Man Ray and titled on the handle, no. 928 from the edition of 5000 numbered examples, additionally monogrammed and numbered on the accompanied by plastic label, 16.5 x 10 x 9.5 cm, published by Luciano Anselmino/Turin, on a wooden base in a plexiglass box, detached from the base, (EW)
In 1921, Man Ray created the sculpture "Cadeau" as a gift for gallery owner Philippe Soupault on the occasion of a solo exhibition. Nothing was sold during the exhibition, but the iron with glued nails was stolen and never reappeared. This readymade served as a model for the edition published by Anselmino in 1974.
