Abraham Hondius, also known as de Hondt was born in Rotterdam where he entered the studio of Cornelis Saftleven. His earliest painting dates from 1651. He worked in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and in 1671 moved to London where he died. Hondius was above all known for his hunting scenes and for animals fighting each other.
