Ellis Dullaart from the RKD, The Hague, has confirmed the authenticity of the present painting.

In his monograph of the artist, Wolfgang Stechow mentioned that the development of Ruysdael’s signature can be examined much more accurately than the ones of his contemporaries (see op. cit. Stechow, 1975, p. 49). The phase from 1628 to 1631 was the only time in which the artist wrote his surname with an extra ‘e’ in the middle, as is the case in this painting, which is dated 1629.
