The present painting is a workshop replica of a lost prototype. For a version showing only the right half of the composition see the exhibition catalogue De Zotte Schilders, Gent 2003, pp. 121/22, no. 11. Another version showing the complete composition was sold at Christie’s, New York, on 17 June 2004 as lot 8 (as ‘Follower of Jan Massys’).
