Alessio de Marchis was mainly active as a landscape- and architecture painter in Rome and in Urbino at the beginning of the 18th century. He received his artistic formation in Rome in the studio of Rosa da Tivoli. The landscapes by Salvator Rosa and Claude Lorrain, however, had a more lasting impression on his work. The fresco decorations in the rooms of Palazzo Ruspoli and of Palazzo Albani in Rome and his works in the Palazzo Anselmi and in the chapel of the Collegio Gregoriano in Perugia were his most important commissions.
