Maria Retschek travelled to Brazil, where she explored and profoundly appreciated its culture and landscape. Thanks to the profession of her husband, Anton Retschek, who was the Austrian ambassador to Brazil, she was able to gather numerous impressions of this country over the course of her travels and subsequently incorporate them into her artistic oeuvre. She was able to capture Brazil’s typical atmosphere and light and reproduce it in her landscape paintings, as in the present work.
