August Hermann Krüger was a landscape painter from the Düsseldorf school. After initially studying art in Munich, he continued his education in Düsseldorf from 1867 onwards, having spent time in Dresden and Berlin in between. There, he was a private pupil of Oswald Achenbach and undertook numerous study trips to Italy and Egypt. Kruger mainly painted landscapes from the region of the Northern Italian lakes and from the areas surrounding Rome, Naples, Capri and Sorrento. His landscapes with elements of staffage are characterised by a warm colouring, which introduces the magnificent hues of the south into the images with aplomb.
