Lot No. 75

Prototype of a desk with a drawer, designed by Michael Young,

2005, for Established & Sons, cut aluminium, coated wood, red felt, Bakelite, hidden lighting, height 150 cm, width 160 cm, depth 68 cm, height of writing surface 75.5 cm. (DRAX)

Prototype for a limited series produced without the drawer.

Provenance:
Michael Young, Hong Kong/Brussels

Conceived as a free-standing piece of furniture, this desk consists of two pairs of A-shaped legs holding the desktop between them. The rear wall, curved towards the font like a “hood”, creates something like privacy, which in combination with the integrated storage unit and the lamp ensures an autonomous and fully functional creative environment, opposed to recent “exposed” interpretations of desks.

“I have always enjoyed finding a little space where to write a letter or a postcard, it’s a special moment. I like even more the idea that one might be so indulgent as to afford a special place to do it. This is not an object to be put against a wall, but rather a desk behind which one can hide.”
(Michael Young)

Estimate:
EUR 10,000.- to EUR 15,000.-
