Only five examples of this model are known.
The sculptor Bernhard Hoetger was in close contact with the Worpswede artists’ colony, particularly with Paula Modersohn-Becker, whose house in Bremen he decorated in the sense of an overall Expressionist work of art. The chairs he designed for her are closely related to the present model.
