A Lampadaire à l’Étoile, Alberto Giacometti*, - Design First

designed c. 1936, patinated bronze, signed in one foot: A. Giacometti and numbered: 021, height 149 cm. (DRAX)

Registered in the catalogue raisonné of the works of Alberto Giacometti under AGD-no. 3715. With certificate of authenticity issued by the Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti.

The design of this lamp goes back to the collaboration between Alberto Giacometti and the Parisian designer and interior decorator Jean-Michel Frank, for whom the artist conceived several lamp models in 1936 used for Frank’s interiors.

After the death of Walter Hadorn in 1986, large parts of the collection of the Swiss medical doctor and art patron went to the Kunstmuseum Bern as a donation, including Amadeo Modigliani’s Standing Female Nude (“Elvira”) from 1918. As early as 1977, the Kunstmuseum Bern had presented the Hadorn Collection in an exhibition that was accompanied by a catalogue (Kunstmuseum Bern, Sammlung Hadorn, Bern 1977).
