Behind the Kandagawa River and the Shôheibashi Bridge, porters and passers-by can be seen walking past the wall of the Seidô ("Sacred Hall") on the opposite bank. It was built in 1690 as a shrine of Confucius worship by the fifth Tokugawa shogun Tsunayoshi (1648-1709) and is still intact today.
