Provenance:
Collection Giancarlo Sestieri, Rome.

The present drawing is a preparatory design for the oil sketch of the figure “Fides” in the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf (Inv. M 2592; compare D. Graf, Die Handzeichnungen des Giuseppe Passeri, Düsseldorf 1995, Cat. A 11, p. 272). Like in the oil sketch the figure of „Fides“ is not only represented with the cross and the book which is held by a putto but also rendered with one leg on a fallen idol. (Graf 1995, p. 272).

The attribution to Giuseppe Passeri was confirmed by Prof. Francesco Petrucci on the basis of a high-resolution digital photograph.
