Provenance:
Collection Giancarlo Sestieri, Rome.
The drawing represents a copy after the fresco „Allegory of Virtue“ by Raphael in the lunette of the "Stanza della Segnatura" in the Vatican Palace in Rome and may have been made in preparation for an engraving after a drawing by Ricciolini which copied Raphael’s fresco. A comparable copy in red chalk after Raphaels fresco “Disputa” is kept in the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle (Inv. RL 12070).
