N. Spinosa, Pittura napoletana del Settecento dal Roccocò al Classicismo, fig. 239, No. 189, pp. 129-130. The present oil sketch may have been a detail study or a bozzetto in preparation of a painting. It is an excellent example of comparable oil sketches by Francesco Narici, which occupy a special position in the artist’s graphic oeuvre due to their sketchy character and painterly qualities. Comparable oil sketches are kept in the Biblioteca Municipale in Rouen (Inv. 69-72, four studies for paintings are in the Chiesa della Consolazione, Genova and in the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburg (two studies for paintings in the Chiesa di San Carlo, Genua, see K. Andrews, Catalogue of Italian Drawings,1968, Vol. I, p. 37) and in the Biblioteca Communale di Soragna in Liguria (compare: G. Godi, Dipinti e disegni genovesi dal 500 al 700, Soragna 1973, p. 132, No. 32).
