Karel Dostál-Lutinov (1871-1923) was the editor of the newspaper "Novy zivot", which was a journal of the catholic Czech Moderns and was published between 1896 and 1907. Following a visit of Lutinov in Crakow in 1898 Wyspianski agreed to collaborate with the Czech magazine. In 1898 the journal published an article about the artist ("Novy zivot, Vol. III, 1898, p. 6) and the present drawing served as an illustration. Comparable preliminary studies for the glass windows in the Saint-George-Cathedral in Lemberg are kept in the National Museum in Crakow (compare MNK III-r. a.-2504/1-4).
