in 2020, natural oak, titanium-zinc plated metal sheet covering, black leather covered bolster, signed and dated: xaver 2020, height 37 cm, length 180 cm, depth 50 cm. (DRAX)
A unique piece. With certificate of authenticity.
Xaver Sedelmeier has covered a chaise longue and chair with slip covers of sheet metal. The combination of the exquisite oak frames and the material of sheet metal creates an exciting dialogue. Slip covers normally serve for the protection furniture from dirt or wear and tear but can also be employed as decorative elements. Sedelmeier’s slipcovers expand on this concept by the aspect of irrational protection. Resembling an inorganic case, the sheet metal covers grown nature in the form of oak wood in order to ward off negative influences. These works, composed of timeless and clear elements, symbolically represent an emotional immune defence, a type of resilience. At the same time, the decorative combination of two fundamentally different materials provides a sort of aesthetic protection – a guiding idea that was already inscribed in Sedelmeier’s work “Shieldwork”.
