Marie Krafft was the daughter of the painter Johann Peter Krafft (1780–1856) and his wife Juliana Preisinger and she was the sister of Ludovica Krafft, the portrait painter Julie Krafft (1821–1903) and the Orientalist painter Albrecht Krafft (1816–1847). Juliana Krafft (née Preisinger) and Ludovica Krafft died in 1847 as shows a drawing of the laying out in the Belvedere in Vienna (Inv. Nr. 9463b) Marie Krafft began already at the age of four years to draw with her father even before she learned to read and write. At the age of twelve she received her formation in watercolour and oil portraits; later she also learned to paint landscapes in watercolour and to make lithographs under Thomas Ender. In 1836 she travelled with her father to Venice. In 1840 she married the bank official Franz Troll and from 1847 onwards she painted above all copies of old masters.
