This drawing of a female nude is part of a group of studies Gustav Klimt made for the faculty painting “Die Medizin” at the University of Vienna. Of these, it is the only study in which the woman hints at a smile. Cf. Alice Strobl, Gustav Klimt, vol. I, cat. nos 592-674 and vol. IV, cat. nos 3365-3390.
