Ferdinand Dorsch

Ferdinand Dorsch - 19th Century Paintings

(Fünfkirchen 1875-1938 Dresden)
A Party in the Park, signed Ferd. Dorsch, oil on canvas, 111 x 120 cm, framed

Through his work, Ferdinand Dorsch (1875-1938) reflected the rich and rapid artistic development of his time.
Throughout his life, Dorsch was part of several artist collectives, such as the Sächsischer Kunstverein or the Künstlervereinigungen Dresden, and worked briefly as a portrait painter and photo editor, allowing him to develop a careful attention to detail and be aware of the advancing technologies and styles of the time. Later, he became a Professor at the Dresden Academy, having among his students Otto Dix, Franz Lenk and Paul Sinkwitz.
Inspired by the Vienna Secession and his friend, German impressionist painter Gotthardt Kuehl, his own style shifted towards Impressionism, preferring to slowly abandon naturalism and brighten his canvases; this work is a prime example of this shift, seen by his choice of subject matter and the loosening of his brushstrokes.
