Several other versions of the same composition are known to exist, traditionally thought to have originated with Jacob de Backer (Antwerp circa 1555 – circa 1591) including: a version in the Aachen-Suermondt Ludwig Museum, Aix la Chapelle (inv. no. GK43; oil on panel, 107 x 75 cm), another version previously with the Bruton Gallery, Somerset (oil on panel, 107 x 76 cm, illustrated in The Burlington Magazine, vol. CXI, London 1969, pl. XXI).
