The painting had been on loan and on display in the Alfons-Walde-Museums’ permanent collection in Kitzbühel for the last decade.
The painting „Einsamer Berghof“ (Lonely Mountain Farm) with its farmhouse resting in the glistening snow and the decorative element of a mother and child is one of Alfons Walde‘s most sensi-tive pictorial motifs of the early 1930s. It is characterised by a soft, sometimes impasto dry painting technique that achieves differentiated colour nuances and various sculptural forms. The warm, unbroken light of late winter emphasises the feel of things, gently gliding shadows model and enliven the resonant calm of this contemplation of nature. Spatial depth is conveyed by the view into a landscape hollow and across to a high rising mountain slope, covered by snow fields, whose colour changes charmingly with the daylight from bright white to the delicate pink of dusk.
