The painter and the painting surface
I enter my painting like I enter a garden. The surface of the painting is white nothingness, the painting is life and I am the begetting angel.
My ploughing, planting walk is slow and marked by a constant sense of tumbling, as if I had a wooden load to carry.
The living life in painting is the ingenious incursion of a coloured shape. If this fails to happen, the emptiness does not recede, even if the white surface is covered with paint.
The nothingness doggedly opposes the incursion when it is necessary to defend its emptiness, for change and transfiguration are a birth and a torment.
The daily marriage between the painter and the painting surface is the battle between mortal enemies who love each other.
