writing cabinet (so-called ‘Schreibtabernakel’), probably East Franconia, 18th century, ‘à trois corps’, softwood frame, walnut and fruitwood veneer, panel and band marquetry, chest front with bombé and angled design, 9 drawers, writing compartment with 4 external drawers and a slanted fall-front - the latter with elaborate geometrical marquetry décor, 7 inner drawers with similar veneer on the facing side (with central locking mechanism), red cloth covered writing surface, upper section with moulded cornice with prominent middle section and canted angles, 2 veneered doors with similar marquetry decor to the fall-front, 19 veneered and marquetried inner drawers with curved drawer fronts, c. 220 x 121 x 74 cm, all drawers and inner drawers lined with paper, in well-maintained condition with signs of age and use.
