The small Polish town of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is about 33 km from Krakow and famous for its extensive pilgrimage complex. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Poland and its Calvary trail is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe. The history of the pilgrimage site dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, when the then voivode of Krakow, Mikolaj Zebrzydowski, had a monastery and a Calvary trail built there after the Jerusalem model.
