Arnulf Rainer *

(born in Baden near Vienna in 1929)
"Sonnenzyklus", 2004/2005, 5 drypoint etchings in colour on wove paper, each signed A. Rainer, no. 6 from the edition of 40 numbered impressions, plate size each 19.7 x 19.6 cm, sheet size 58 x 45 cm, printed by Eva Mösendeder/Salzburg and published by Galerie Weihergut/Salzburg, the edition cards are enclosed, (5), (RAC)

“Initially, the artist designs the basic motif of the edition on a blank printing plate. After printing the ‘first’ motif, the artist works on the etching plate a second time, reacting to the previous motif and thus creating metamorphoses of the basic motif. And so the process of his etchings continues. After about 4-5 stages, the printing plate is fully exhausted and the cycle is complete.” (text of the edition card). The individual works have the following titles: Schwarze Sonne - Dunkle Sonne - Rotbraune Sonne - Blaue Galaxie - Sonnenuntergang
