The sheets are from the journey to Crimea that Thomas Ender made in Archduke Johann's retinue. They were executed around October 23/24, 1837, just before entering Piraeus. The trip took its start in Smyrna, passed Tinos, Delos and Ägina and led to Piräus – Athens. Walter Koschatzky wrote as follows: “On October 23, the “Marianne” departed from Syra again, into a glorious, calm evening. Early the next morning, the classic land can already be seen, Aigina and a magnificent panorama stretching as far as cap Sunion. We droped the anchor off Piraeus.” (Walter Koschatzky, Thomas Ender 1793-1875, Kammermaler Erzherzog Johanns, Graz 1982, p. 95).
