Lot No. 71

Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel *

(Wunsiedel 1881–1965 Vienna)
“Schönbrunner Gloriette (Park von Schloß Schönbrunn)”, 1911, colour woodcut on thick Japanese paper, with the faded signature stamp within the depiction, additionally with the signature and estate stamp of 1965 in the lower margin, block size 42.7 x 42.5 cm, sheet size 52 x 46.6 cm, Spielvogel-Bodo OG. 37, depiction slightly browned, especially the margin with short creases, framed, (RAC)

The present example is a state proof unknown to Spielvogel-Bodo, preceding the edition of the Hof- und Staatsdruckerei/Vienna. In the black plate, our version features a larger number of strolling figures on the rising traverses in the background, which were reduced for the edition. Traces of the eliminated figures are still recognisable in the edition prints. Also, unlike the edition, our copy was printed from only 2 blocks, of which the blue-grey colour block was only partly inked and also printed at an angle. Probably a unique piece in this form.
