The present painting is accompanied by a written certificate issued by Bernd Konrad, Radolfzell (9 December 2017). According to Konrad, “[t]he facial types are very similar to those seen in the Constance-based studio of Peter and Hans Murer. The tear sac under the eyes and the brown pupils are particularly relevant in this regard. The small, pointed hands can also be found in their work. Due to the small section of the image available, it is not possible to assess the shape of the folds; the Murer studio generally produced very stiff, ‘meander-shaped’ folds, which are characteristic of the studio…” Konrad notes that this painting could also depict the three Marys on Easter morning, as shown by the objects they are carrying (a bowl, a cup and a plant). However, there are no late-Gothic painted panels offering separate depictions of the three Marys that can be compared with this one. On the reverse of the image there are visible traces of colouring around two empty circular sections. These indicate former halos from reliefs depicting saints, which have been removed.
