1970 Porsche 914-6

1970 Porsche 914-6 - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Matching numbers, documented from the very first day!

In the mid-1960s, Porsche and VW were looking for an alternative to the faltering 912 and a successor to the Karmann Ghia. Ferry Porsche and Heinrich Nordhoff, whose daughter is married to Ferry's nephew, sealed the deal for the project 914 with a handshake. After the unexpected death of Nordhoff, his successor did not want to hear anything of this deal, which is why the 914 was ill-fated from the start. In addition to the four-cylinder version, which was also marketed as a VW-Porsche, there was the 914-6, also assembled at Porsche, with a six-cylinder heart and brakes from the 911. With its mid-engine layout, it struck fear into many of its larger, back-heavy brothers. Unfortunately, the high purchase price was an obstacle to any real success and the 914-6 ended after only 3,332 units. This is exactly what makes it such a sought-after rarity today!

Like most of its contemporaries, this 914-6 ended up in the USA – in Texas, specifically. The car is Canary yellow and has a black leatherette interior. The original receipts to the dealer indicate a Blaupunkt Frankfurt Radio, a leather steering wheel, tinted windows and a seat pad on the centre tunnel as extras. The engine and gearbox are original, and even the foot-rest for the passenger is still there! The 914-6 was restored from the ground up in the late 1980s. There is extensive photo documentation for this work. The car's current condition speaks to the quality of the work that was carried out at that time. The vehicle ended up in the hands of a Swiss collector via Austria. He had a Porsche workshop in Austria overhaul the engine completely, which is also fully documented with invoices and photos. An exceptional 914-6 is waiting for the new owner, a car that thrills in every way, its condition and history.
