1970 Maserati Indy 4200 Ex-Udo Proksch, Ex-Teddy Podgorski

1970 Maserati Indy 4200 Ex-Udo Proksch, Ex-Teddy Podgorski - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Swiss delivery, matching numbers!

With the introduction of the Indy in 1969, Alfredo Vignale created an unusually quiet design that, despite the super sports car layout, did not appear aggressive. The modest body is home to four first-class seats and trunk space, embodying the quintessence of a Gran Turismo. Since it was better aerodynamically than its more expensive stable mate, the Ghibli, it was deprived of the 4.9-litre V8 at first. In any case, purists go for the 4.2-litre machine, which doesn't have the Citroen hydraulics. A test report from "auto, motor und sport" magazine ended with the following fitting words: "Most sports cars are either four-seaters or are beautiful. The Indy is both!"

This Maserati Indy 4200 was delivered to Switzerland in early 1970. The car had the irresistible colour combination of metallic dark-grey (grigio ferro) and a black leather interior. On November 9, 1979, the City of Vienna granted an individual permit to Mr. Udo Proksch. Udo Proksch, a colourful personality of Viennese society and gifted designer, founded Club 45 and became internationally famous – if not infamous – because of the "Lucona" affair. Proksch always created a sensation. He liked to drive Maseratis, generally painted camouflage – this vehicle escaped that fate, thankfully. Another interesting anecdote in the history of this Indy: the car was registered to the Union Sport Aviation Club in Eisenstadt for the ten years that followed. Next came 15 years with Thaddaeus „Teddy“ Podgorski, motorsports broadcasting legend and former General Director of ORF (Austrian Public Broadcasting), a no less famous owner. The last owner had the Maserati overhauled extensively by specialists. The Indy is rolling on new tires and is ready to drive. The great condition aside, this is a piece of Austrian history with a provenance like no other.
