In September 1965, Porsche introduced the Targa also referred to as the “safety convertible”, cousin to the 911 coupé. Targa means ‘plate’ in Italian and is also meant to evoke the „Targa Florio“, a road race in Sicily that Porsche had already won five times in 1965. The Targa originally came with a removable rear window, the so-called soft window. At no additional charge one could order an alternative “tinted fixed rear window with electric heating” (order no. 9496). In the model year 1968, 521 Targa of the 911 T type were rolled out.

The present 911 T ordered on 4 January 1968 by a businessman from Grünberg and delivered on 17 April 1968. He had ordered his Targa in orange (without specific colour designation!) and black. He also ordered the 5-gear transmission, halogen headlights, and warning light. The order form notes not only that the buyer will pick up the car himself but also that “payment in full is due in cash upon receipt” - times have certainly changed. The receipt dated 25 April 1968 also lists a „Becker Europa“ radio, and shows that Porsche had meanwhile raised its prices.
The service booklet has been stamped up until 1983, with general inspection reports and receipts of later date also present. Around 2010 the bodywork was repaired and given a new coat paint, though the decorative elements remained in their original state. A photo-documentary depicts the ongoing repairs and shows where new parts were used. The limited work necessary and the reasonable mileage suggest that this Porsche spent most winters in a garage. Following the restoration the undercarriage was sealed with clear wax. The engine was altered to include a more low-maintenance hydraulic chain tensioner. The consigner had new tires installed in the alternative dimensions of 185/70 R 15 on 6“ steel rims (though the originals obviously also come with the car). A Porsche specialist ensured the technical well-being of the Targa. On the occasion of its consignment, the car was serviced, including an adjustment of the valve clearance, to ensure that everything was shipshape! In summary, this may well be a fan’s dream come true, a car that combines history, state of preservation, and appearance in a single form!
