1979 Moto Guzzi Le Mans 2

1979 Moto Guzzi Le Mans 2 - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Moto Guzzi’s most legendary motorcycle was and is the Le Mans. Usually encountered in distinguished red, the rocket sold so well that five models were released. The original version from 1976 was therefore awarded the designation ‘I’ in this particular nomenclature. The fifth and final evolution was released in 1988. Moto Guzzi used the IFMA in Cologne in September 1978 to present the Le Mans II, although even the model name ‘VE’ makes clear that it was nothing other than a slightly modified original Le Mans. The panelling – whose upper section moves with the handlebars – is the most noticeable new feature, while the lower section, like in the 1000SP, is firmly attached to the frame. Engine performance rose to 73 hp at 7,700 rpm, while the specs list a maximum speed of 208 km/h.

The consignor managed to purchase the Le Mans 2 from a German Guzzi fan two years ago, which explains its German registration documents. The current owner has built a small selection of legendary motorcycles from the late 1970s. And anyone with a foible for Italian bikes simply has to own a Le Mans as part of the collection. It follows, therefore, that he was willing to invest untold amounts in acquiring this legend. He put a five-figure sum in its complete restoration. His plan was to ensure that the Le Mans, already a reliable and durable motorcycle, would give him untroubled pleasure for a long time with its freshly refurbished engineering. Now the consignor has discovered a new passion and is therefore willing to part with some of his pieces. Only those fortunate enough to have piloted one will truly understand the mythical qualities of the Guzzi Le Mans.
