1971 Lancia 1600 HF Rallye

1971 Lancia 1600 HF Rallye - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Reminiscent of the winning car in the 1972 Monte Carlo rally

Famed for their unique craftsmanship and innovative engineering solutions with complete disregard for commercial cost control, pre-Fiat era Lancias are in a class of their own. In particular the HF version with more powerful motorisation and lighter body was an extremely successful race car. Besides the 1.6 litre engine, the 1969 HF was fitted with a 5-speed gearbox and the awe-inspiring headlights that earned it the nickname ‘Fanalone’. The Fanalone was a beast on the racetracks and was extremely successful in putting the top dogs of the era, Renault and Porsche, in their place, for instance at the legendary 1972 Monte Carlo rally. Sandro Munari and Mario Mannucci humiliated the chasing pack by coming in 11 minutes ahead. Fulvia pilots also took fourth and sixth place.

Just 1,258 Fanalones were built between 1969 and 70, and so it’s hardly surprising that replicas pay testimony to this icon of rally racing. This one is no different. The Fulvia left the factory in the sporting 1600 HF design introduced later on. 3,690 of them were built between 1970 and 1973, each with the identical HF engine identified as 818.540. Around 10 years ago, the previous German owner restored the Fulvia in the Fanalone look of the winning car in the 1972 Monte Carlo rally. The lovingly detailed refurbishment is evident in the measures applied to reduce its weight, as well as in the contemporary rally features, including the racing tank cap, the mechanical odometer, the cage and others. The consignor has also stated that the engine was given a lively performance boost. It spent the last years lovingly tended in a small collection, or taking part in the occasional vintage car rally. Racing enthusiasts now have the opportunity to purchase a roadworthy model of this coveted rally legend, and are certain to receive plenty of praise at events!
