Four scenes from the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15, 11–32), The Prodigal Son Squanders his Fortune, The Departure of the Prodigal Son, The Prodigal Son Among Swine, The Return of the Prodigal Son, oil on canvas laid down on board, each 101 x 128 cm, framed, (4)

Provenance:
Walter Salzmann Collection, Vienna; Sale, Dorotheum, Vienna, 16 January 1973, lots 165–168 (as “Attributed to Johannes Zick”) Gerhard Kölsch, Mainz, whom we thank for his kind assistance, sees a connection between these paintings and the oeuvre of Emanuel Wohlhaupter (Brno 1683–1756 Fulda), a court painter to the Prince-Abbot of Fulda. He refers to Wohlhaupter’s “Verspottung des Sokrates”, executed in 1737, currently preserved at the Deutsche Barockgalerie in Augsburg.
