Lot No. 116 +

A representative Louis XV chest of drawers,

A representative Louis XV chest of drawers, - Collection Reinhold Hofstätter

France 18th century, stamped DF, mahogany veneered, flaring and curved hard and softwood frame with lacquer painting in chinoiserie decor, 2 drawers, lavishly ornamented with partly fire-gilt bronze mounts, moulded marble top, 84 x 146 x 63 cm, well-kept condition.
F. de Salverte’s book about cabinet makers’ stamps mentions, under the entry DF, Jean Desforges for D.F. (DES FORGES); Alexandre Pradère, in his study “Die Kunst des französischen Möbels” casts doubt on the aforementioned link to Desforges and favours the view according to which the initials would be a shortform used by two cabinet makers (in this case, father and son) called François Delorme-Faizelot, one of whom is the father of Adrien Delorme, who specialised in lacquered furniture.

Lit.:
