We are grateful to Erol Makzume who confirmed the authenticity on the basis of the original.
Zonaro stayed in Istanbul for 20 years, which resulted in a considerable record of the city. The present painting, for example, is one of several works based on real life, depicting the famous Göksu River. Thanks to the years he spent in Paris during the rise of Impressionism, the strong effect of light and colours is apparent in this work. The topic is among the most exhibited and published subjects of the artist.
