1976 Ford Escort RS 2000

1976 Ford Escort RS 2000 - Classic Cars

Ford presented the second generation of their Escort range in 1974. Apart from the exterior, not much changed; the technology and basic shape were taken from the predecessor. Once again, the top model was the RS 2000, which had an additional 10 horses and now reached 110 HP in series production. For RS drivers, "series" was mostly a foreign word. Ford Motorsport offered a comprehensive RS parts program that often endowed the small escorts with plenty of power. The Escort also succeeded in motorsports: Björn Waldegard and Ari Vatanen won the World Rally Championship in 1979 and 1981.

This Escort RS 2000 is one of ten that were originally delivered to the larger Ford dealers in Austria. This one went to the Josef Lehr dealership in Horn, where it was registered as a demonstration vehicle for a good month. In its early years, the car gained some Rally experience; Wilhelm Gärtner had it converted into a street racing car without compromise around 1990. That marked the beginning of the long and successful motorsports career of this RS 2000:
1st place ADAC Bavaria Prize1992, 1st place Austerlitz Mountain Race 1994, 1st place 1 hour race Brno 1994, Austrian Mountain Challenge champion 1994, etc. The car then continued its career in the Austrian Histo-Cup – the corresponding vehicle log books are available for this period, as well as numerous photos and program booklets. The consignor gave up the racing career two years ago for house and family. Now the RS 2000 is ready and waiting for a new driver and new adventures! Hop in and have fun!
