Albert Christoph Dies studied at the Academy in Düsseldorf and undertook study trips to, among others, Brussels, Rome and Naples. In 1797 he settled in Vienna, where he worked as a teacher of landscape painting at the Vienna Academy, eventually becoming General Director to Prince Esterhazy.
