Bachtiar Khan carpet,
West-central Persia (Iran), ca. 800 x 413 cm, beginning of 20th cent. Tribal rug in with Garden- or field- design, from the middle of the 19th cent. These carpets were made for the tribal leaders and bear large inscriptions of the names of the purchasers, as described in Ian Bennett’s groundbreaking article for Hali. The piece offered here bears the inscription on the front side "by order of Sultan Aliekhan Shahab Olsaltane", slightly browned with minimal signs of age, a rip to one corner. (MA)
