Lászlo Paál was first a pupil at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna where he was taught by Albert Zimmermann, amongst others. He then moved to the Düsseldorf Academy where he became a pupil of Mihály Munkáczy. Study trips brought him to the Netherlands and to London. His meeting with artists of the Barbizon school which he joined in 1873 would have a particular influence on his work. The artist was awarded a medal at the Wordexhibition Vienna 1873 for his painting Sunset, and four years later another medal would follow for his work Path in the Wood At Fontainebleau at Wordexhibition Paris. Paál is regarded as one of Hungary’s most important landscape painters.
