Saint Christopher, woodcut on laid paper, 26,5 x 20,5 cm, unmounted, unframed, (Sch)

The present woodcut goes back to the original Buxheim Saint Christopher of 1423 (comp. Bartsch 1349). Certain details of the later sheet were simplified and in many cases limited to outlines. By means of the paper quality one can assume that the present sheet dates back towards the late 18th century. The woodcut is not listed among the “Holzschnitte alter Deutscher Meister in den Originalplatten von Hans Albrecht von Derschau" Gotha 1808 („Woodcuts of old German masters in original plates by Hans Albrecht von Derschau").
