The present painting is probably inspired by a work by William Daniels who, with his uncle Thomas D. Williams (1749–1840), published the famous Oriental Scenery (1795–1808).
This collection of 6 volumes of some of the finest aquatints on India were widely published and had a significant influence on 19th century England and its taste for Indian art.
