Acquired by the father of the current owner in 1979 at the exhibition in Piazzola sul Brenta;
thence by descent the present owner;
European private collection.

Situated on the bank of the Bosphorus, the Dolmabahçe Palace was completed in 1856. The present lot was painted in the rear palace gardens. This panoramic view was executed from an elevated vantage point, using an Impressionist plein air technique and dominated by a varied palette of colours. Painted in Istanbul circa 1891-1910, the artist has created a personal and spontaneous vision of the city. He was indeed fascinated by the city which he described as heaven on earth.
