Mikhail Klodt, a scholarship student at the St.Petersburg Academy, spent the period from 1858 to 1861 in Switzerland and France, primarily in Brittany and Normandy. See Klodt’s comparable work, “Summer in Normandy” (A Summer Day) of similar dimensions (63 x 91.4 cm) from 1860 in the art museum at Jaroslavl on the Volga (Inv. Ж-562). Mikhail K. Klodt, one of the most famous landscape painters of the Russian school, headed the landscape class at the Imperial Art Academy and was a founder of the Peredwishniki – the society of travelling artists.

В качестве пенсионера АХ Михаил Клодт находился с 1858 по 1861 год в Швейцарии и во Франции (главным образом в Бретани и Нормандии). Наиболее близкой к предлагаемому произведению является картина М. К. Клодта практически тех же размеров (63 х 91,4 см) «Лето в Нормандии» («Летний день») 1860 г. из собрания Ярославского художественного музея (инв. Ж-562).
