Wilhelm Amberg studied at the Academy in Berlin under Wilhelm Herbig. Between 1839 and 1842 he worked in Carl Joseph Begas’ atelier. In spring 1844 he moved to Paris where he pursued his studied under Leon Coignet. He travelled to Italy - Rome, Venice and Naples, before settling down in Berlin. He was honored many times and was member of the Senate at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin. Amberg dedicated himself almost entirely to genre painting. His paintings are characterized by harmonious colours and an intimate and poetic charm.
