We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD for his help in cataloguing the present painting (written communication, 25 November 2013).
The present painting is related to a similar still life featuring the same motifs that was offered for sale at Sotheby’s London on 31 October 1979 as Alessandro de Loarte (lot 28). This painting also shows the monogram GVR. It was published by Fred Meijer, who suggested an attribution to Jacob Gerritsz. Cuyp (see A. Chong, Jacob Gerritsz. Cuyp 1594–1652, Dordrecht, 2002, pp. 62–73, fig. 74.)
